Rule 410-1 with Footnotes - Marked for Interpretation

Table 410-1 of the 2012 NESC provides values for "the effective rating of clothing or a clothing system to be worn by employees on or near energized lines, parts, or equipment."  (See Rule 410.A.3.a.)  The Agency has determined that many of the values listed in Table 410-1 are accetpable for compliance with 29 CFR 1910.269(1)(8)(ii) because the notes to the table make clear that those values are based either on testing data or on calculations performed using methods described in IEEE Std 1584-2002 (IEEE Guide for Performing Arc Flash Hazard Calculations).

PG&E Issues Critical Product Newsflash

The purpose of this Critical Product Newsflash is to advise the field on an issue related to ALL Salisbury Insulating Link Sticks. These tools are key to employee and public safety and are used between energized conductors and andy rigging points that may be at a different electrical potential.

OSHA Enforcement Extension Notice

We have been advised that OSHA will extend the effective date of the standards from December 31, 2014 to February 17, 2015.  The official notice should be posted to OSHA's web site within the next 24 hours or so.  We do not anticipate any changes to this dates as it has already been signed off by the OSHA leadership.  We will continue our discussions with OSHA on the key issues of the standards that impact your operations and work to secure an acceptable outcome.
